The Pontiac GTO is an American muscle car which was manufactured and marketed by General Motors in the 1960s. It was designed to compete with the Ford Mustang and Chevrolet Camaro, featuring a distinctive styling cue on the side of its hood, red body color, and four-on-the-floor manual transmission.
In 1964, muscle cars were at their peak in popularity and power before being supplanted by the introduction of emission controls in 1965.
